Tom & Dave is a jack–of–all–trades business located in an unknown sector of Rapture. Little is known about the firm, but its owners apparently worked as a private security force, as well as painters.

Main article: BioShock

Though the business is never encountered during the events of BioShock, an advertisement for it is featured in one of the most commonly used skyboxes. Actual neon signs can be seen during Jack's descent into the city via Bathysphere. Later on, he encounters the same marquee while journeying through Poseidon Plaza in Fort Frolic.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The seemingly incongruous juxtaposition of "paintings" with "hired guns" is a reference to the phrase "I heard you paint houses", mafia-speak for a contract killer. These were allegedly the first words spoken by labor union leader Jimmy Hoffa to Frank Sheeran and became the title for Sheeran's 2004 book detailing his career with the mob.
  • The "Tom & Dave" from the business' title refer to people associated with Hoffa.
    • Dave Beck was president of the Teamsters' Union prior to Jimmy Hoffa's election in 1957.
    • After the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa in 1975, Thomas Andretta, along with his brother Stephen, were part of a group of alleged hitmen subpoenaed by the FBI to stand trial.
