Spider Splicers are Splicers that have gone to an extreme: unlike most Splicers which seem to have used their ADAM for practical reasons, Spiders act in such a way that suggests they do it so they can be better at killing. Able to stick on to the ceiling, perform acrobatic feats impossible to a "pure" person and twirl red-hot hooks from afar at Jack, Spiders are one of the most difficult Splicers Jack will encounter.

Looting a Spider's body will usually yield a "Spider Splicer Organ", which, after reaching Research Level Two for this enemy, functions as a First Aid Kit.

The first Splicer encountered by Jack that Atlas remotely scares away with his bot returns as an unmarked "boss" enemy in Neptune's Bounty. She is a Rosebud with unique dialogue, donning a red jumpsuit. Other Spider corpses are present throughout the level, with what looks like her eating the first encounter. Like all of the other Splicers, she is insane, singing and dropping pink rose petals over Jack. She first attacks outside Peach Wilkins's hideout, where Wilkins himself tells Jack that he is "well and truly fucked" before she drops from a hole in the ceiling. Due to the fact that she has to return after the three splicers have been photographed, she cannot be killed on the first encounter. It is possible to lower her health to zero but she will still not die. After photographing the three Spiders for Wilkins, she returns at the Gatherer's Garden, more powerful than a normal Spider. However, this battle is entirely optional, as it takes place only if the player chooses to pick up the Wrench Lurker Gene tonic placed as a trap.

[edit] Strategy

When badly injured, Splicers will attempt to use a nearby Health Station, if available. This can be used to the one's advantage if the player has previously hacked the Health Station. After the player has dealt a good amount of damage to the splicer, he or she will run to get health and be poisoned to death by the hacked Health Station.

Cannon Fodder? - Considering that these suckers are still a bit of a challenge on the Easy setting, one can only imagine what they're like on Hard. Fast and ruthless, they'll force the player to waste ammo just getting a bead on them. They can even be scary at times for their ability to come from just about anywhere. However, play clever and one can take them down without wasting too much ammo and EVE.

Weapon of Choice - Being agile little buggers, laying traps such as Proximity Mines and Cyclone Traps are fairly redundant unless the player lures them into a cramped area. It's a better idea to immobilize them with Electrobolt or Winter Blast, then rail them with everything the player's got. The Chemical Thrower can also be useful in this situation, tagging them with Napalm will light them up and make them a perfect target. The other two Chemical variants could be useful, as they also immobilize enemies. With the Sonic Boom plasmid added by Patch 1.1 the player can also knock them down from ceilings or hit them in midair, often damaging them to the point where they can kill them before they have a chance to get back up. The Shotgun is also a great weapon against Spider Splicers, especially if it has been upgraded. The Shotgun's wide field of fire makes it easier to hit the agile Splicers, and its high damage will kill them quickly. Shotguns are also useful when Spider Splicers charge the player, but fire and Insect Swarm may be the most effective counterattack, fire because if the player hits them once they take damage over time and one doesn't have to try hitting them with the Pistol or any other projectile firing weapons. Insect Swarm is great against them to because the player doesn't have to aim at them, as the bees will home in automatically.

Another strategy involves using some First Aid Kits. Equip oneself with a tonic in the Static Discharge line and preferably the Bloodlust and/or the Wrench Jockey tonic. When the player sees or hears Spider Splicers, rush at them since they can only melee the player when in close quarters. Start whacking at each one of them with the Wrench, and obviously the player will also get hit. But getting hit means the player will release a burst of lightning, giving them time to whack away. Repeat and use first aid if needed.

On easy, a single round from the Crossbow will kill them even if it isn't a headshot. This is not recommended if the player hasn't have upgraded their Crossbow to reduce chance of breakage as Bolts often miss while the Splicer is jumping around.

Another stategy is to hack Security Bots to help in the fight, since they will fire at them if they attack the player, and can easily show where they are. Don't let the Bots do all the fighting themselves, though, as the Spider's hook throw can destroy them in two hits each.

One more thing: the Spider Splicer's projectiles are fast, but can be thrown back at them for reasonable damage (although not on Hard, where the damage dealt by this attack is pitifully low) with Telekinesis if the player is low on ammo.
