The Security Bots are a creation of Andrew Ryan. They can be hacked by Jack to make them friendly and protect him. As the game goes by, they will become much tougher to hack, and cost more to buy out. The effect of an Auto-Hack, however, does not change. The alarm created by the security system can be shut down by using a Bot Shutdown Panel. The Security Bots are made from boat motors and machine guns, and appear to be improvised devices like the turrets.

[edit] Security Bots (Enemy or Ally)
Security bots also are a flying enemy, or ally, depending on if you've hacked them or not. Their lights are different colors depending on their allegiance.
A severely damaged Security bot will fall to the floor and explode shortly thereafter, dealing some splash damage to everything in the close proximity.
[edit] Weapon
Their only weapon is a built in machine gun with unlimited ammo, though about mid-game it becomes less powerful but they are upgraded soon after. Sometimes, you will find armor piercing pistol rounds when you search them.
[edit] Red Light
Red lights on the bots, as on basically anything, indicate that they are hostile to the player, they are either called after you have vandalized something, have stayed in the vision of a camera too long, or are in the control of your enemies. They will keep attacking you until you destroy them, freeze or electrocute then hack them, or kill the splicer that is controlling them. They can also be shut down through a bot shutdown panel for a small price.
In the case of bots being controlled by Splicers, both bot and Splicer will have a red beacon on them indicating the connection, making it easier to tell who to kill to stop the bots.
Note that such Splicer-controlled bot can be electroshocked and Hacked, thus turning it against its former Splicer owner.
[edit] Green Light
Bots with all green lights are completely friendly to you and will fight along your side until destroyed or deactivated by you. They won't attack enemies right off the bat, but will attack the enemy if it attacked you or if you attack the enemy first. These bots make excellent distractions for Big Daddies. You must hack them to make them friendly. After you hack them, if they are damaged (white or black smoke or fire), shutting them down by getting close and pressing deactivate and then again to reactivate will restore all their health.
Note that you can have at most two friendly security bots. If you already have two, the "Hack" option will not be available on any new bots until one of the friendly ones is destroyed.
If you leave a friendly bot behind by navigating to a different part of the level via an elevator or some other means that does not allow the bot to to travel along, it will find an alternate way to your new location and join you in a short while.
If you attempt to navigate to a different level with a friendly bit tagging along (for example, through a Bulkhead), the bot will remain on its "native" level and turn itself off. Once you return to that level, the bot will be waiting for you there, disabled, in the bulkhead room.
A following tactic can provide you with an endless supply of friendly Security Bots:
- Equip Natural Camouflage Physical Tonic;
- Find any Hackable device, such as Health Station.
- Start Hacking that device, and deliberately route the water to an Alarm Tile;
- Alarm will cause a pair of hostile Security Bots to appear. Use any electrical attack on both bots and quickly hack them to turn them into friendly ones (note that you have to hack both at once: if you hack only one, the remaining hostile bot will not allow Natural Camouflage to engage)
- Stand still so Natural Camouflage hides you from a new pair of hostile bots, and remain still until the Security timer runs out.
- Repeat the procedure once both of your friendly bots are destroyed to get a fresh pair.
[edit] Yellow Light
A bot with yellow lights is essentially neutral to you. It has been sent by a hacked security camera, and it will only attack enemies that the camera has detected. After the targets have been eliminated, these bots will go away. You can shoot them with Electro Bolt, then hack them to get them to follow you. Also, neutral cameras can be researched.
[edit] Strategy
Hacking Security Bots will grant the player a small boost in firepower, but can also unlock a variety of new strategies. Most often it is recommended to hack rather to destroy. Electricity-based weaponry and armor-piercing ordnance will deal severe damage, although Electro Bolt will stun the bot. It is recommended to use ice-based attacks or Target Dummy to hack the bot, since these attacks deal no damage.
When possessing a hacked bot, deactivating and reactivating it will fully heal it.
Attaching Proximity Mines to a hacked bot will turn it into a mobile kamikaze. This strategy will cost you a Security Bot, but will severely damage even a Big Daddy.
Deactivated bots will produce a ticking sound, which grows in pace over time. If the bot is not reactivated withing a certain amount of time, it will automatically explode.
