Plasmids

From BioShock Wiki

Plasmids are special serums made from processed ADAM that introduce special stem cells into your system, allowing for genetic modification and real time mutation, giving you what some might call "super powers". Plasmids are powerful, but excessive use of them helped to bring about the downfall of Rapture.

[edit] BioShock

Jack has a limited number of slots for actively equipped plasmids. The player can change his currently equipped plasmids at a Gene Bank. The player may purchase additional slots (up to maximum of six) and select plasmids at a Gatherer's Garden.

Plasmid Effect
Electro Bolt Sends a jolt of electricity to electrocute your opponent or to open a few locked doors in Rapture.
Cyclone Trap Spawns a mini-tornado, and when a Splicer steps on it, it is flung high into the air.
Target Dummy Spawns a ghost that distracts any enemy allowing you to escape.
Hypnotize Big Daddy Hypnotizes a Big Daddy into thinking you are a Little Sister, and it will protect you for a short time.
Enrage When an enemy is hit, it will cause them to attack anyone that comes near them.
Security Bullseye When hit, it will cause the Security Bots to come after them once they walk into a Security Camera's view.
Winter Blast This plasmid will freeze your opponent, allowing you to smash them with your Wrench.
Incinerate! This will set your enemy on fire. Try it while they walk past an oil slick for added fun!
Telekinesis Throw objects at foes and knock them out cold! Try throwing an oil barrel or hydrogen tank for added fun!
Insect Swarm Set a whole hive of mad wasps on your foes. Watch as they get stung and bit to death! Fun!
Sonic Boom Blow foes away with a powerful blast of wind. Watch as they slam into the wall breaking every bone in their body. Exciting!

Another plasmid, Teleport, was ultimately removed from the game in the final versions. The player also receives a plasmid from Tenenbaum, which allows him to rescue the Little Sisters. Some plasmids are found in bottles lying around Rapture, and they are visually distinguishable from Gene Tonics due to their bright, saturated red glow. A file containing names of possibly-removed plasmids named Predefined_Plasmids.txt can be found in the BioShock directory.

[edit] BioShock 2

Players will be able to use plasmids and weapons simultaneously. Upgrading a plasmid also unlocks an alternate use: For example, upgrading the Incinerate! plasmid gives the player the ability to produce fireballs, and can ultimately use his hand as a flamethrower. A larger suite of plasmids will be available, as well as more upgrade levels. It will also be possible for plasmids to be used in conjunction. For example, Plasmid Trap (known as Cyclone Trap in BioShock) can be infused with another plasmid, such as Incinerate!, creating fire traps. Most, if not all, of the plasmids from BioShock will return.

The following new plasmids are for multiplayer only:

Plasmid Effect
Aero Dash Dash with high speed and knock your opponent to the ground.
Geyser Trap Sets a trap that launches enemies into the air with burst of water.
Houdini Plasmid Allows you to become invisible and stealthily attack your opponents.
