R KILLIAN QUAIN = RØD QUAIN
RØD (Norwegian) = RED
RØD QUAIN = Red Queen?

(What’s the significance           ANOTHER OF

of Killian? MARTYR?)         LUTWIDGE’S GAMES?

It’s been under my nose –
almost from the start!

I’ve been running the RED QUEEN’S RACE <- Just like Alice
Running as fast as I can…
to get right back where I started…

TOLLEVUE – a padded cell –
where people like me
and Lutwidge belong

Chasing mirages…
Hunting phantoms...

If RAPTURE is real…
the only man who’s found it
is even crazier then
ME.

Dear Celeste,

I'm at a crossroads... Your own story is an object lesson - of why it's

necessary to remain suspicious of "proof" of the fantastic. Yet I've

just been confronted with a piece of evidence that's got me ready to

believe the IMPOSSIBLE. In short, Lutwidge's new riddle suggests that

"RAPTURE" may lie at some incredible depth beneath the sea. And now

I'm looking back through the most unlikely material from my various

contacts - rumors of a new Atlantis, outlandish stories of underwater

cities filled with futuristic technology & inhuman monsters.

I know you crossed the Rubicon yourself - when your researches

convinced you of the old legends of "Hidden Masters" and lost cities in

the Himilayas - legends you now believe to be mere folktales. That's

the one thing that's holding me back.

But something you said on the phone last week keeps nagging me. You

suggested that Lutwidge buried those bottles we found on the

beach. Or that maybe he arranged for it. As if he were still up to

his old tricks. As if he were still alive...

...but Lutwidge vanished in Sept. 1958 when he set off to find "true

Rapture". We both know he was never seen again.

Don't we?

Yours - "in the spirit of Truth" -
Mark
