Hacking
From BioShock Wiki
- For an in-depth review of the 'hacking' system, see Minigame.
Hacking is a method of bypassing automated security systems including security cameras, turrets, security bots and safes. All vending machines save Gatherer's Gardens and Power to the People machines can also be hacked.
To hack a system, one can:
- Play a minigame similar to Pipe Dream.
- Spend cash.
- Use an Automatic Hack Tool.
The difficulty of a system being hacked is reflected by the number of overload traps, alarm traps and accelerate tiles, and the speed of the water running through the tubes, or the amount of cash to be spent. Automated Hack Tools are unaffected by any difficulty level.
[edit] Effects
Doors unlock, safes open, turrets shoot at your enemies, but also...
- security bot (they follow and fight with you, max 2)
- security camera (will detect wandering enemies and send bots, BigDaddies are immune unless tagged with Security Bullseye)
- vending machine (price lowered to ~80%)
- U-Invent (component cost lowered)
- Health Station (cost lowered to 10$, also deals damage to splicers that try to heal there)
[edit] Trivia
The concept of hacking is virtually unknown from the period of 1946 to 1960, which is why Andrew Ryan in the "Vandalism" audio tape struggles to find a correct term for the action.
